  • Blue Belt

I am a lifelong martial artist of almost 30 years and a retired law enforcement officer. I currently have a blue belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Professor Daniel Tavares, and I hold a 4th degree black belt and Master Instructor title in Dang Su Do, also known as Tang Soo Do (Korean karate) at Moo Do Karate Academy in South jersey.

My journey began in martial arts as a child. I was first introduced to kickboxing by my father, who was an amateur kickboxing champion in the 80s. Soon after, I began training in Korean Karate under Grandmaster Tong In Chang at Chang Karate School. In the early 2000s I competed in many tournaments. I participated in forms and sparring, and achieved 1st place 19 times and 2nd place 1 time. I have been training and teaching in this art for over 25 years.

I’ve inspired my wife and kids to start their journey in martial arts too. As a family, we started training together in Dang Su Do. In 2019, I decided to try a few Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu private lessons with Professor Daniel, and I was hooked. My kids joined first and fell in love with Jiu-Jitsu, then in 2021, I officially began training, and later, my wife joined. Today, my family and I continue training together.

My goal and mission within the martial arts community is to promote all the benefits and gifts it has to offer for anyone and everyone. I truly believe that practicing martial arts, especially Jiu-Jitsu, will create a more peaceful and harmonious world.
