I first discovered Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu when I saw “The Ultimate Fighter” as a kid. I became obsessed with Jiu-Jitsu because it gave a small person the ability to defeat a larger opponent. This really appealed to me and I began practicing in the back yard with my brother, and we both joined the wrestling team because there were no Jiu jitsu schools in our area.

I was introduced to real Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu by Daniel Tavares when I first walked into his academy in 2017. I was 22 and serving in the USCG. My life was changed forever from that day forward.

My Jiu-Jitsu journey has affected every area of my life. Jiu-Jitsu is more than a recreational sport, it is a lifestyle, and the lessons that I have learned over the past 7 years have helped me both on and off of the mat.
